GEOGRAPHY VOCABULARY UNIT 1

Mountain range: a series of more or less connected mountains ranged in a line.

Flood: a great flowing or overflowing of water, esp. over land not usually submerged.

Earthquake: vibrations in the earth's crust causing the ground to shake.

Anthropic: of or pertaining to human beings or their span of existence on earth.

Soil: the portion of the earth's surface made up of humus; earth.

Accurate: free from error; carefully precise.

Hail fall: a shower or storm of pellets of ice

Mankind: human been.

Due to: because of.

Debris: the remains of something destroyed; ruins.

Tides: the regularly occurring rise and fall of the waters of the ocean.

Ravine: a narrow, steep-sided valley usually created by the effects of running water off the soil over a long time.

Plateau: a land area having a level surface raised much higher above nearby land.

Estuary: the part of the mouth of a river in which it’s current meets the sea's tide.
